John Cronin Fleet Air Arm

John in white coveralls sat atop the cowling.

We were visited today by John Cronin ex FAA Wildcat and Hellcat pilot. Training in Canada on Cornells and Harvards he returned to UK where he was Commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant (A) in the RNVR. He was posted to No. 1 Air Fighter School at Yeovilton for training on the Wildcat and thence on to Karachi in a BOAC Sunderland. From there he went on to Tambaram near Madras, India where he became aquainted with the Hellcat. The war had now drawn to a close and John came back home on board the battleship HMS Howe arriving in Portsmouth in January 1946.
